brief bios:

Jeremy Ferguson

Jeremy Ferguson has been recording since 1996, starting with his friends' band, Player X, in Evansville, Indiana, where he grew up. He attended Purdue University for two years before transferring to Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee where he received a degree in Music Production and Technology in December 2001. Jeremy interned at Alex the Great Recording from September 2001 through December 2001 and has worked out of the studio engineering and assisting sessions since that time when he is not working on his own sessions. Jeremy has a strong protools background, having taken classes at MTSU for the program and then working on the system extensively at Alex the Great and on his own system every day since August 2001.

Jeremy bought a house in East Nashville's Inglewood district in March 2003 where he opened his home studio, called Battle Tapes Recording, which he runs with his partner Tony Read. He feels that the studio will be a constant "work in progress" as more and more gear is accumulated, making for a studio that will have the majority of the equipment you'd like available to you to make something as small as a demo or something as large as a full length record for commercial release, not to mention the comfort of the home environment where the studio is nestled.

Jeremy owns an extensive cd and vinyl record collection which he calls from for his influences in the recording environment and pays no allegiance to any one recording style (liking productions varying from super gloss pop records to 70s anechoic recordings to dirty as they can be indie-rock recordings) and is only interested in making recordings that suit the music they are showcasing and are what those involved wish a specific recording to sound like.

Jeremy also plays guitar in the middle Tennessee based instrumental rock band Mercator.

Tony Read

I started recording in school at Middle Tennessee State University where I met my partner, Jeremy Ferguson. Upon graduation I moved to Stavanger, Norway where I participated in a program at a music school there as a teacher's assistant in an advanced music production class. For six months I did nothing but record jazz and classical music in a variety of spaces from seven centuries old cathedrals to modern concert halls. While in Stavanger, I kept in contact with Jeremy and we talked about starting up a studio together. We figured it would be a great idea to combine our efforts since we seemed to think alike as far as recording goes.

My background in music stems from playing in many bands in Nashville such as Process is Dead (my old hardcore band), The Sincerity Guild (my old instrumental band that is still alive and well), The Contract (my first attempt at playing drums), and now Hostages (my collaborative effort with members of expired local math rock favorites, Serotonin). Learning is an everyday thing and playing in many bands, recording with these many bands, and listening to as many bands as I do on a daily basis is how I never stop learning how things sound and how to make that sound happen.

With the way things are going at our location in East Nashville, Jeremy and I continue to improve on the space we have as well as our equipment and use of said equipment. We are also always thinking of new ways to make our place sound better and work more efficiently.
